Judge Signs Execution Order For Death Row Inmate Troy Davis
ATLANTA -- An attoey for a Georgia death row inmate who claims he is innocent of the 1989 murder of a Savannah police officer is set to die later this month.
Defense attoey Brian Kammer said a judge signed an order setting an execution for Troy Davis between Sept. 21 and Sept. 28. It is the fourth time since 2007 that state officials have scheduled the Georgia inmate to die.
Davis has become a focal point for the inteational anti-death penalty movement, attracting high-profile figures like former President Jimmy Carter.
The Georgia Attoey General's office didn't immediately comment.
Davis claims he wasn't the one who killed off-duty Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail. But a federal judge rejected his claim, and the U.S. Supreme Court tued down another appeal in March.
