Judge keeps 14-year-old Aaron Schmitt  accused of shooting jailed

EVANS, Ga. -- A 14-year-old charged with the shooting death of a neighbor was in jail over the weekend after a judge denied him bond.

Augusta Superior Court Judge Albert Pickett said Friday that the 14-year-old was a "threat" and should remain jailed at the Regional Youth Detention Center while awaiting trial.

The teenager is accused of the Jan. 31 shooting death of Alana Callahan, who was also 14. The suspect initially told police he found Callahan's body while chasing away an intruder, but authorities say he later said he shot the victim by accident.
