'I'll erase your voice': ICE agent's threat caught on camera
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was filmed threatening a bystander in Minneapolis as tensions remain high over recent federal enforcement actions.
In the widely shared video — posted online by MinnMax and captured during protests against a controversial federal operation — the agent, seated in a vehicle and without a mask, tells a man recording him, “If you raise your voice, I erase your voice.”
The exchange continues as the man challenges the comment and the agent appears to reaffirm the threat. The recording has drawn criticism from civil liberties advocates, who say it reflects a broader pattern of intimidation by federal agents.
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of ICE and other federal law enforcement agencies following two fatal shootings in the Twin Cities this month. On Jan. 7, an ICE agent shot and killed Renée Macklin Good, 37, during an enforcement action in south Minneapolis. A separate encounter on Jan. 24 led to the death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and ICU nurse, after Customs and Border Protection agents opened fire during protests tied to the ongoing immigration operation.
Civil rights groups and local officials have condemned the deaths and calls for greater oversight of federal actions, with demonstrations continuing across the city.
