Deputy arrested for child molestation

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga -- Authorities say a Gwinnett county sheriff’s office deputy was arrested Wednesday and charged with child molestation.

Gwinnett County police obtained a warrant charging Michael Lomax, 31, with aggravated child molestation by sodomy after they say he performed a sexual act on a 13-year-old victim he met on Grindr, a gay social network app

The victim’s mother reported the incident to Lilbu police, who tued the case over to Gwinnett police.

Lomax was arrested in Stone Mountain around 2 p.m.

According to the Gwinnett sheriff’s office, Lomax was employed as a jailer for 2 years. The department said Lomax resigned after his arrest.

”While I am extremely disappointed in the actions of Michael Lomax and glad to see him behind bars, I am also alarmed that minors can access social media apps of this nature and utilize them to meet strangers, said Sheriff Butch Conway.
