Gwinnett County man Kurt Vanpool charged in his son’s death
Kurt Vanpool

A Gwinnett County father has been charged in his 2-year-old son's death. Kurt Vanpool, of Hoschton, was charged with murder Thursday.

Gwinnett police were originally dispatched to Vanpool’s home regarding medical call where a 2-year-old child wasn’t breathing. The child was later declared dead

The autopsy revealed the child died from a lethal amount of oxycodone in his system and the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Investigators leaed Kurt Vanpool obtained oxycodone and took some of the medication during the middle of the night. Vanpool claimed that at some point during the night, Hunter was able to ingest some of the oxycodone and died.

Based on the negligence of Vanpool using an illegal drug in the presence of his child and leaving that drug in an area where the child could ingest it, homicide investigators charged Vanpool with one count of felony murder and one count of cruelty to children second degree.
