Georgia Museum of Art to Reopen Next Month

ATHENS, Ga. - The Georgia Museum of Art will reopen next month after being closed for nearly two years.

The museum shut down March 2009 for a $20 million expansion and renovation project. It opens Jan. 29 with 16,000-square-feet more in gallery, garden, storage and research space.

The expansion includes space for faculty and students in the University of Georgia's art programs to research the archive from the museum's collection. That space was partially funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
