Georgia Democrat leads in race for U.S. Senate in third straight poll
Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Georgia, Michelle Nunn, is leading her Republican opponent David Perdue in a third consecutive poll. The latest poll, conducted by SurveyUSA for 11Alive News, came out on Wednesday and shows Nunn ahead 46-44.
The survey included 606 likely Georgia voters and has a +/-4.1 margin of error. The Libertarian candidate Amanda Swafford received 4 percent of the vote while 7 percent are still undecided.
Last week’s poll by SurveyUSA showed Nunn ahead by 3 percent, 48-45, but with just 4 percent undecided. It appears that some voters who are still making up their minds are shifting between the two candidates in these last stages of the campaign season, but slightly favor Nunn. If the 7 percent of undecided split evenly between the candidates, the race will go into a runoff scheduled for Jan. 6, 2015.
A survey by WRBL, that polled voters right before SurveyUSA, also showed Nunn ahead but by less than one point.
While none of these polls show an advantage outside of the margin of error, it’s clear to see that Nunn has made some progress. For most of September and through the beginning of October, Perdue was still polling ahead of Nunn by 3-4 points. Nunn’s winning polls were all conducted after she faced her opponent in a debate where she did very well. The next debate will take place on Sunday, Oct. 26.
