CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — An Air Force airman has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for taking an Iowa teenager to Georgia for sex.

The U.S. attoey's office says 28-year-old Gary Archer, of Valdosta, Ga., was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids. He pleaded guilty in April to interstate travel to sexually abuse a child and transporting a child in interstate commerce for unlawful sex.

Prosecutors say Archer drove from Georgia to Iowa in May 2010 to have sex with the 14-year-old girl. He then bought her an airline ticket so she could fly to Georgia, where she stayed for about a month.

Archer had called the girl's father claiming to be a family member of the girl's friend in Georgia. The friend, he claimed, was in poor health.
