Atlanta police are trying to figure out what caused a Georgia State student to crash into an ice cream store.

Emergency crews rushed to Upper Alabama Street around 2:30 a.m. after a car hit a curb and went airboe before landing inside a Haagen-Dazs store.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Timothy Nixon, was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Georgia State's men's soccer team spokesman Randy Lieberman confirmed that Nixon was a senior midfielder on the 2011-2012 team.

A schools assistant athletic director, Allison George, said Nixon was set to graduate this fall.

The medical examiner’s officer will conduct a toxicology report to help determine if alcohol or a medical condition played a role in the crash.

”We are devastated by this incredible tragedy, and our hearts go out to Tim's parents, Diane and Gary, and his family and friends. The Georgia State soccer family has lost a treasured friend and teammate. Tim was immensely popular with his teammates, a player and person that everyone was drawn to. I'm at a loss for words," Georgia State Head Soccer Coach Brett Surrency said.
