Time has run out for former Morrow police chief Jeff Baker to appeal the revocation of his law enforcement certification.

Ken Vance, executive director of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, told GA Daily News the deadline for an appeal expired Monday.

"Mr. Baker did this to himself. This is not something someone else brought upon him. He brought these actions upon himself. It is a sad ending to what could have been a promising career," Vance said.

Georgia POST yanked the former chief's credentials following his drunken driving arrest in November.

A traffic officer said he spotted Baker asleep at the wheel of his patrol car at a traffic light. Police reported they discovered a cooler in the patrol car and several empty beer cans.

The head of the Georgia POST said Baker may have a hard time getting reinstated if he applies for certification in two years.

"Historically, a person would have a hard time coming in and overcoming those things after two years. Maybe a little further down the road, a possibility," Vance said.
