Family Members Cella Copeland, Otis Lee Bennett, Hetty Bennett Face Charges in Union City Baby Death

Police in Union City say three people are facing charges on Wednesday in connection with the death of a 9-month-old girl.

Investigators say officers were called to a home on Goodson Street on Monday after it was reported a girl was found unresponsive in her crib. Paramedics performed CPR on the child while being transported to South Fulton Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

After an investigation, Union City police say they have charged the child’s mother, Cella Copeland, with murder and cruelty to children. Also charged is the stepfather, Otis Lee Bennett. He is facing charges of murder, cruelty to children and aggravated assault. Another family member, Hetty Bennett, is facing charges of cruelty to children.

Police released no other details. They say the case remains under investigation.
