Family Dog Mutilated in Gwinnett County
Vet: Knife Or Scissors Used To Kill Family Dog

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County family says someone intentionally killed their dog, and the family said how the dog was killed is even more disturbing.

Clara Truesdell said her dog Jack-Jack was part of the family for five years.

"Nobody's pet, nothing, no creature should have to die that way, said Truesdell.

She said she saw Jack-Jack around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on his bed in the garage, but he wasn't around Thursday moing.

"We hadn't heard from him, seen him and his food was uneaten," said Truesdell.

A couple of hours later, a neighbor spotted the dog and called animal control.

Jack-Jack was dead, and his body had a very large and unique wound.

"I noticed that the dog had no lacerations on it, that it was a very clean abdominal wound. His head is intact, his paws are clean. No blood," said Truesdell.

Truesdell said she found a clean cut incision on the left side to the mid-line of his body, exposing the dog’s organs.

The family vet, who examined the dog, said the cut was not the mark of a wild animal.

The vet believes someone cut the dog open with either a steak knife or scissors.

Truesdell said she allowed her dogs to roam around in the yard at night, but said they never went far because they wear shock collars.

She said Jack-Jack's was still intact even after the attack.

"It still works. It would have shocked him, so someone picked him up and took him off the property," Truesdell said.

The family is asking Gwinnett County police to investigate.
