Ex-substitute teacher Anna Michelle Walters convicted in student-sex case

The former substitute teacher accused of having sex with a student plead no contest to reduced charges in Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Thursday moing.

Anna Michelle Walters, 24, was originally charged with felonies, however those charges were reduced to misdemeanors after the Commonwealth’s Attoeys Office consulted with her victim.

Walters was convicted of sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She was sentenced to 12 months in prison on the sexual battery charge and given a

12-month suspended sentenced on the delinquency charge. Walters must continue going to counseling, undergo a sexual offender evaluation and have no contact with her victim.

Walters had sexual contact with a student in a Cosby High School classroom between March 15 and April 15, 2012. Police said they started to investigate Walters after another student posted on Twitter that he had a sexual relationship with her. That student also posted sexually explicit photos he claimed Walters sent to him.

The charges Walters faced were not related to the student who posted the pictures on Twitter.
