Jill Biden's ex-husband William Stevenson charged with murder of wife in Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del.  — A Delaware man who was once married to former first lady Jill Biden has been charged with the murder of his wife following her death in late December, authorities said.

William Stevenson, 77, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Linda Stevenson, 64, after a weeks-long investigation by New Castle County police, according to law enforcement officials.

Officers responding to a reported domestic dispute on Dec. 28 found Linda Stevenson unresponsive on the living room floor of the couple’s home in the Oak Hill area of Wilmington. She was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Stevenson was taken into custody at the same residence and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000 cash bail, authorities said.

Police have not publicly released the cause or manner of Linda Stevenson’s death. The investigation remains active, and no motive has been disclosed.

Stevenson was previously married to Biden from 1970 until their divorce in 1975.
