A couple who were trying to figure out why they kept getting sick were horrified to discover that their roommate had allegedly been poisoning their food with bug spray.

Billy Sonhopper and her husband, David, of Los Angeles, California, had suffered repeated illnesses, including emergency room visits for chest and stomach pain.

Surveillance footage shows their roommate, Timothy Bradbury, spraying what appears to be Raid insecticide on food in the shared kitchen. He was even seen wearing a gas mask while spraying the liquid on fresh produce.

The couple installed cameras after David was diagnosed with liver damage. Doctors reviewed his bloodwork and suspected he had been poisoned.

David Sonhopper has been left with liver damage as a result of the alleged poisoning. Billy Sonhopper said she is “tired” of living in fear.

David said, “In the video, we saw that, in addition to everything else he’s done in the year we’ve lived here, he was spraying something — we didn’t know if it was rat poison or wasp spray.

“He was spraying it all over our groceries — our fruits, our vegetables, our coffee pot that we use every morning, and our entire pantry filled with chips and cereal, as well as our canned goods and spices.

“Everything. He sprayed everything.”

The couple said the alleged misconduct went beyond spraying food. They claim Bradbury also damaged their property, including their car.

David added, “He set our house on fire. He’s poisoned our food. He’s destroyed our property. I had to get a new car because he ruined my old one.”

Police responded to the home, where a standoff between Bradbury and officers followed. After about two hours of negotiations, he exited the house voluntarily and was arrested on suspicion of willfully poisoning food, drink, medicine, or water with the intent to cause injury.

The homeowner had reportedly been attempting to evict Bradbury prior to the incident.

Billy said, “We don’t want to live in fear anymore. We’re tired of it. We just want to feel safe.”

David added, “It’s been hell living with him this past year. It’s been horrible.

“With her health issues, we were extremely concerned. We’re just exhausted. We’ve been under so much stress.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
