Driver Shirley McManners appears in court for killing student
The driver charged in the death of a Douglas County High School student appeared before a judge on Thursday. Shirley McManners is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of 17-year-old Brandy Hart.

Correction:We reported earlier that alcohol was a factor. Alcohol was not a factor in the vehicular homicide.

A 51 year-old Douglass County woman Shirley McManners charged with vehicular homicide in the death of 17-year-old Brandy Hart appeared before a judge today.

The grocery store employee sobbed during her entire initial court appearance. Her emotional state prompted her attoey to postpone the issue of bond.
