DOUGLAS COUNTy, Ga. - Douglas County officials say a 29-year old man is facing animal cruelty charges.

A sheriff's deputy found eight malnourished horses on Steven Alston's property after someone called to report him. Authorities say Alston was arrested Tuesday night and is being held at the Douglas County Jail on $4,000 bond.

Alston told deputies he couldn't afford to feed the horses and had considered tuing them loose.

The horses are being treated at animal shelters.
