Dekalb Woman Twyann Vaughn Convicted in Dog Attack Begins Serving Sentence
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - The dog owner convicted of reckless conduct last week surrendered to DeKalb county authorities on Monday.
Twyann Vaughn was found criminally liable for the vicious dog attack that left a young girl an amputee.
Erin Ingram, now 10-years-old, was attacked by Vaughn's two pit bulls in 2010 near her Lithonia home. On the stand last week, she testified that she remembered every minute of the attack. Ingram lost her arm in the vicious attack.
Vaughn was sentenced to 16-months behind bars and 36-months on probation.
The family of Erin Ingram said through their attoey that they felt Vaughn should have been sentenced to more time. Erin's father, Tommie, said Vaughn's apology in court Friday did not resonate with him.
"The only I heard was a plea to not go to jail. I really don't feel like it was a lot of remorse really shown at all," said Tommie Ingram, who added that Vaughn fled the scene of the attack and never visited Erin at the hospital.
The Ingrams have moved from Lithonia to Lawrenceville. Erin said she enjoys her new school and enjoying getting back to life as normal as possible.
