DeKalb judge's son Byron Scott charged in assault of mom, daughter

A DeKalb County court employee was indicted Tuesday with aggravated assault charges, stemming from a 2013 fender bender accident with a woman and her daughter.

According to a police report, the woman claimed that Byron Scott pointed a gun at them, yelled expletives, and pushed them, after the accident occurred along Redan Road in DeKalb County.

The report says ”she and her daughter ran in the opposite direction of Mr. Scott until police arrived. Scott was arrested and charged with misdemeanors back then. But a grand jury indicted him on felony charges this week.

”He didn’t do anything to this woman. He didn’t threaten her. He didn’t point a gun at her but the officers chose to believe her when they arrived, said Keith Adams, Scott’s attoey.

Adams says the woman, a witness, was acting belligerently.

Scott’s father is DeKalb County Judge Mark Anthony Scott.

”He was arrested, and charged with a misdemeanor offense and I believe in an attempt to make it look as if they weren’t giving him any sort of favorable treatment, they’ve actually bent over backyards treating it much more seriously than anyone facing these allegation would have been treated, Adams said.

”Byron Scott has done a great job as Board of Equalization supervisor. As a result of current charges, I have placed him on administrative leave, said Debra Deberry, DeKalb County Clerk of Superior Court.
