DEA agents shut down a pain clinic in Stockbridge Wednesday for allegedly operating as a “pill mill.”

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - DEA agents shut down a pain clinic in Stockbridge Wednesday for allegedly operating as a ”pill mill.

Police arrested three people at the Stockbridge Pain and Wellness Center after a three-month investigation by Henry County law enforcement agents.

One of the people arrested, 31-year-old Catherine Chettiar, is accused of pretending to be a nurse.

"As best as we can tell...she does not have a nursing degree, no nursing certifications, anything of that nature," said Major Chad Rossborough of the Flint District Drug Task Force.

People who worked in the office park off of Rock Quarry Road said there was often lots of foot traffic at the clinic, which was open only one day a week.

According to Rossborough, four undercover officers purchased prescriptions for oxycontin and other pain pills with no problems.

Agents left the office with several boxes of patient records, which could be used as evidence.

Dr. Mike Tan has run the clinic for 18 months. Authorities said Tan wrote prescriptions for around 40 patients per day. Tan was not there during Wednesday's raid. Authorities said they will seek a warrant for Tan's arrest. They believe he may be in Minnesota.

Rossborough said that prescription drugs were Henry County's major drug problem.

Chettiar and two other employees arrested Wednesday are expected to make their first court appearance Thursday on conspiracy charges as well as charges for writing false prescriptions.
