LUMPKIN COUNTY, GA - Police say a father and his 6-year-old son are dead after they both drowned while swimming at a popular North Georgia creek.

The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened Tuesday around 2 p.m. at Dicks Creek Falls in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

The victims have been identified as Joshua Kistler, 38, and his son, Jaxon Kistler, both of Dahlonega.

Several witnesses told police the father jumped into the water to rescue his son who was having trouble swimming. Authorities say they both drowned and no foul play is suspected
