Cross Dressing Bank Robbery Suspect John McCrary Shot During Standoff

Paulding County Police confirmed the identity of the man shot on Thursday night as the suspected cross-dressing bandit John Edward McCrary wanted for robbery in Marietta.

Police opened fire at the 33 year old McCrary after authorities said he pointed his gun at officers.

The standoff started around 8 p.m on Thursday when police responded to reports of stolen vehicle. When officeres confronted McCrary at the residence, h pulled a handgun and pointed it at his head and threatened to shoot himself.

After several hours of negotiations, McCrary then pointed the gun at officers who fired at him. He was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The stolen Chevrolet Suburban at McCrary's home was located by the car dealership it was taken from using GPS.

Officials said McCrary is accused of holding up a BB&T bank on Sandy Plains Road on Halloween. He faces robbery and aggravated assault charges in that case.
