Court says Casey Anthony is only legally a liar twice, not four times
Looks like Casey Anthony caught a break, sort of. An appeals court in Florida overtued two of the four convictions against her for lying to investigators in two interviews about the death of her daughter, Caylee.
The convictions were misdemeanors and were handed down following her acquittal in Caylee's death.
Anthony's lawyers argued that multiple charges constituted double jeopardy and she should have been charged just once.
State lawyers argued Anthony should have been charged for each instance of lying, four times total. Ultimately, the judges thought both arguments were bogus.
The court ruled that because a significant period of time had passed between the two interviews in which Anthony lied, each instance constituted an individual crime, and two convictions could stand.
