ATHENS, Ga. -- A couple who reported stabbing a man in self-defense after he broke into their apartment have been charged with felony murder.

Twenty-eight-year-old James Maurice Hood and 21-year-old Briana Hood were arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in what police describe as a drug deal gone bad, Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman said.

Holeman said the Hoods stabbed 26-year-old Christopher James Coon on Feb. 1, then called police to report he forced his way into their home and tried to steal their pills.

The couple had told investigators that Coon knocked on their door about 3:30 a.m. and they ignored him. They said he knocked again and then forced his way into the apartment.
