COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Police were trying to piece together how a woman was hit and killed by a car early Sunday moing.

Investigators said Yasmel Garcia-Victoria, 23, and Michael M. Swetell, 38, both of Norcross, were arguing while driving down Interstate 285 in Cobb County when they suddenly stopped the car on the side of the interstate.

Garcia-Victoria and Swetell then got out of the car and continued the argument, investigators said.

Police said that’s when the woman took off and at some point was struck by several cars and killed.

Detectives said the Swetell showed up at a Waffle House a couple of miles away around 3:30 a.m. and started telling employees there what happened.

Employees said Swetell told them he and his girlfriend had been drinking and his girlfriend started driving more than 100 mph down the interstate when he got nervous and pulled the emergency brake.

Employees at the Waffle House then called police, who took Swetell into custody.

Police have charged Swetell with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, concealing the death of another, tampering with evidence and driving under the influence.
