Cobb County Teen Charged After Cobb SWAT Situation
One person is in custody after a SWAT team in Cobb County surrounded a Wells Fargo Bank, Wednesday, January 11.

A 14-year-old boy is facing charges after a SWAT team in Cobb County surrounded a Wells Fargo bank.

Officers say they arrested the teen after getting a call that someone had broken into the bank early Wednesday moing.

According to Cobb County police, they received a call from Wells Fargo Security around 2 am. Wells Fargo security cameras showed at least one person inside the bank on South Cobb Drive in Smya.

Police say they dispatched units to the scene. Upon arrival, officers reported movement inside the bank. Police then set up a perimeter and called in the bomb squad, a negotiating team and SWAT.

After a short time, police entered the bank to begin a sweep. They could not find anyone inside, but when they tued the lights on in the bank, the boy tried to escape out of a window at the rear of the bank.

Police took the boy into custody without incident. They say surveillance video showed the 14-year-old hanging around the safe, possibly in an attempt to break into it. The teen is facing burglary charges.

They say the 14-year-old may have entered the bank through the back window.

He is currently being held in the Marietta Regional Youth Detention Center.
