CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - Deputies say a woman who called Cherokee County 911 on Monday claiming that she had been kidnapped by a man who put her into the trunk of a car has been arrested for falsely reporting the alleged crime. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says Lisa Bode, 44, was taken to the Cherokee County Jail late Monday night and charged with making false statements and false report of a crime.

At a press conference on Tuesday moing, Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison said Bode was picked up at a Burger King in Blue Ridge shortly before midnight. According to Garrison, Bode was calling from her cell phone but it had no minutes left, so she could only call 911.

Detectives say they worked with the cell phone company to reactivate her phone and add more minutes so she could make more phone calls, which she did. They say they then used her cell phone to track her location, and called her to tell her they going to come pick her up.

Deputies said Bode called 911 at about 2 p.m. Monday and said she had been kidnapped after her car broke down on Interstate 575 near the Cherokee-Pickens County line. Bode told the 911 operator that a white man who kidnapped her put her in the trunk of a gold car, and then drove south on I-575.

Bode’s black Ford Explorer was found on I-575 south just inside Cherokee County. Police spent the afteoon searching it for clues. They say they found what appeared to be her driver’s license in inside, along with some credit cards.

When Bode was questioned, Garrison said she admitted she was not kidnapped. Garrison said she claims she was picked up by an unknown elderly woman.

Investigators say they do not believe that story either, and instead they believe she was likely with friends and is covering for those friends because they too could face charges. Garrison said Bode was having a lot of personal problems and may have just wanted to get away, which may be why she made the call to begin with.

Bode’s fiancé, Jamie Estes, told FOX 5 that he’s not sure what she’s going through, and he’s anxious to talk with her and find out why she made up the story. He says he’s just as surprised as everyone else.

Estes says he’s been dating Bode for about three months, and they’re planning on getting married on June 28. He said he’s never seen her use drugs, and she supposedly has an inheritance of $30,000 coming from a family member. Estes told FOX 5 he doesn’t know if that money exists and that he doesn’t care, and he plans to marry her regardless.

Bode is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with an $11,880 bond.
