Charter Bus Carrying Mill Creek HS Chorus Students Overturns
PINEHURST, Ga. - A charter bus carrying members of the chorus at Mill Creek High School overtued while traveling back from a trip to Florida.
The Georgia State Patrol told FOX 5 News the bus, carrying 52 people including 47 students, was heading north on I-75 near mile marker 116 in Dooly County around 4 p.m. when traffic started to slow. Vehicles ahead of the bus in the lane to the left of the bus got into an accident, sending one of the vehicles into the path of the bus. The driver swerved to avoid the vehicle which caused the bus to enter the median and hit the overpass.
One person was taken by air to Macon Medical for serious injuries and 19 others were taken to area hospitals to be checked. The rest of the students waited at the Dooly Sheriff's Office until another bus could come pick them up.
The accident is still under investigation. No word on charges.
The Georgia State Patrol said the bus belongs to Harmon Brothers Charter, Inc. out of Union City, Ga.
Parents told FOX 5 News the students were part of the Mill Creek High School chorus traveling back from Florida after a field trip to Disney World.
