Residents of the Watkinsville area in northeast Georgia have been waed that a black bear has been spotted wandering in the area.

Police Chief Lee O'Dillon joked that the bear might leave because he wouldn't like the high real estate prices.

City leaders told the Athens Banner-Herald newspaper they suspect the bear is a young male migrating through the area in search of a place wild enough to establish his own territory.

The city has erected caution signs in Harris Shoals Park to wa the public about the bear. Mayor Joe Walter said the city will empty park trash cans daily to deprive the bear of a potential food source.
