Cobb County authorities arrested a 47-year-old Austell man they said killed his 71-year-old landlord and then stole his car.

Police charged Thomas Sparks with aggravated assault, murder and theft by taking for beating Joseph Stahl to death inside Spark’s home on Pisgah Road in Austell.

Neighbors said Stahl often rented rooms in his home, and Sparks was one of his tenants.

Fulton County Police found Sparks at the Skyway Inn Suites Hotel off Fulton Industrial Boulevard on Sunday evening.

Police said Sparks was driving Stahl’s Honda Accord and was trying to drive away.

Sparks is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond. Police told Willis they do not have a clear motive in the killing.
