Atlanta Woman Cassandra Jenkins Hit by Stolen Vehicle Dies
ATLANTA, Ga. - An Atlanta family is coming to terms with the death of a loved one who died from injuries she suffered in a violent collision. The driver of a stolen vehicle plowed into Cassandra Jenkins’ car in June. She was critically-injured in the crash and died on Tuesday.
Now, the man accused of causing the crash faces additional charges.
Cassandra Jenkins spent the final months of her life in an ICU ward with extensive injuries. She had a broken nose, a broken shoulder, nine broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Her life changed forever when she crossed paths with Richard Colston at the intersection of Metropolitan Parkway and Sheldon Avenue in southwest Atlanta on the night of June 23. Police say Colston was behind the wheel of a stolen car when he reportedly ran a red light and crashed into Jenkins’ vehicle.
Jenkins was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital the night of the crash. She remained there in ICU until she died on Tuesday. Her family says at time she was conscious, but she was restricted by tubes and unable to speak to those who kept constant vigil at her bedside.
Family members say they lost Jenkins’ mother on Thanksgiving Day, and they believe her daughter’s grave condition proved too much for the elderly woman.
Jenkins’ four children lost their father a few years ago. Now, they’re preparing to bury their mother.
Cassandra Jenkins’ family has set up a fund in her name to help cover funeral expenses. Donations can be made at any SunTrust Bank location.
