Armored Car Employee Robbed at Mall of Georgia
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Police are investigating the armed robbery of an armored car employee inside a Metro Atlanta-area mall. It happened on Tuesday just after 11 a.m.
Gwinnett County authorities say a man robbed an armored car employee at gunpoint inside the Mall of Georgia as the employee was beginning to load an ATM. Investigators say a second guard saw the incident, and fired a round at the suspect.
Police do not believe the suspect was hit by the gunfire. They say no other shots were fired and no one was injured.
The robbery occurred on the second floor of the mall near the ticket booth for the movie theater. The mall was not crowded at the time, but many shoppers said they find the news of the crime unsettling.
Local investigators and the FBI are working on the case. They say this is the fifth armored car holdup since September, and most of them happened in Gwinnett County. They believe there is a link between the cases, which remain under investigation.
