DeKalb County Fire Captain Eric Jackson said an adult and child were found dead inside an apartment and an infant was taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire erupted at the Monteleona apartments on Briarcliff Road.

Jackson said the two-alarm fire on Briarcliff Road fire affected at least four units.

Jackson said the child was assessed by paramedics and firefighters and transported to a local area hospital.

Four apartments suffered major damage while the other units in the 16-unit building suffered smoke and water damage.

City of Atlanta and DeKalb County firefighters both responded to the fire and are investigating the cause of the fire. The victims' names have not been released.
