Two people, including a young boy, were injured in a Monday moing crash in Gwinnett County.

The crash happened on Alcovy Road in Dacula. Gwinnett County firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m.

The woman was driving on the road and crashed into a tree, Gwinnett fire Lt. Eric Eberly said. It’s unclear what caused the crash, but a witness said the area is a bad spot for drivers.

”The conditions this moing were foggy and damp because of the rain that we've had, so that could have been conducive to, you know, the wreck, said a nearby resident who identified himself as BJ.

BJ watched from across the road as the rescue scene unfolded. When firefighters arrived, the woman was trapped in the crushed van, and firefighters used rescue tools to pry her from it, Eberly said. She was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville in critical condition.

A 5-year-old was also hurt. Eberly said he suffered ”significant injuries to the lower extremities. The boy was taken to Egleston at Emory and listed in guarded but stable condition.

”We’re just praying that everybody’s OK, BJ said.
