CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - Carroll County deputies say they rescued five children from a hot hotel room, where they had been left alone without in air conditioning and food. The children’s mother and an uncle were arrested and charged with reckless conduct in the case.

Deputies say they received a 911 call reporting that the children had been left alone in room 119 at the Carroll Inn on Highway 27 on Thursday. A deputy says when he arrived, a child peeked out a window and refused to open the door.

Once inside, deputies say they found the children alone, hot, and living in squalor. The oldest child was 8, and the youngest was 3 weeks old. A newbo, who was crying and could not be consoled, was found in a closet.

Investigators say the AC unit in the room was working fine, but for some reason it was tued off.

Deputies have charged 26-year-old Victoria Jamison and the children's uncle, 50-year-old Charles Henry Shines. They've both been charged with reckless conduct, and although bail has been set, they remain in the Carroll County Jail.

The children have been placed in protective custody.
