Atlanta police: 10-year-old stable after targeted shooting

ATLANTA (AP) — A 10-year-old boy is listed in stable condition after being shot in the chest early Sunday in a southeast Atlanta home, police said.

Officers with the Atlanta Police Department responded about 6:45 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Ruzelle Drive SE and found the boy with a gunshot wound, according to authorities. Responding officers applied a chest seal at the scene before transporting the child in a patrol vehicle to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Police described the incident as a targeted shooting linked to a dispute between two parties, but said the boy was not believed to be the intended target. Investigators believe three suspects fled the area in a silver sedan.

At least four other children under age 10 were inside the home when the shots were fired, authorities said. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Police have not disclosed whether the suspects were known to the occupants.

Anyone with information is urged to contact local law enforcement.
