Wrecked tanker removed from I-75, traffic moving
A tanker filled with propane has brought the Monday rush hour to a screeching halt after it wrecked and landed on its side along Interstate 75.
With 9,000 gallons of propane in the tanker precariously wedged next to the median, firefighters and wrecker crews struggled to figure out how to put the semi on its wheels.
The chain-reaction wreck happened during a driving rainstorm Monday moing. Trucker Thomas Maxwell watched as cars started sliding right in front of him.
"Sent that car sideways right in front of the truck that's behind mine. He did everything he could to keep it level after the car hit him. The tank started to lean and it just threw him right into the wall," Maxwell said.
Crews were unsure if they could upright the propane tank without causing a much larger catastrophe.
Police started closing I-75 in both directions between Canton and I-575 just after 4 p.m. to upright the propane tanker.
Crews were able to upright the tanker at about 4:30 p.m. and started reopening lanes of I-75
