DACULA, Ga. - A construction worker fell down a manhole at a retention pond in Gwinnett County Thursday.

The incident occurred at the new Kroger Shopping Center in Dacula on Dacula Road and Fence Road.

Tommy Rutledge of Gwinnett Fire says the worker may have been an employee of a grading company doing excavation work. The worker may have been on a ladder when he fell about 15-20 feet.

Rutledge says the rescue effort began around 11 a.m.

Rescuers from the Gwinnett County Fire Department were able to get to the worker and pulled him out shortly after noon. They say he is conscious and alert but has some injuries to his lower body.
