Rescue crews tried to reach a man who fell 55 feet down a methane-filled well at a landfill on Seminole Road in DeKalb County.

Fire officials said a contract worker landed in about nine feet of water.

Officials said the worker may have died as a result of a lack of oxygen.

The man's name has not been released.

Operations at the landfill were on hold until investigators from OSHA could arrive.
