Woman Killed When Truck Flips, Hits 5 Cars in Gwinnett County
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A woman was killed when a crash sent a pickup truck flying into a half-dozen cars at one of Gwinnett County’s busiest intersections.
Police said the victim ran a red light at the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Old Peachtree Road on Tuesday moing.
Her truck was hit by an oncoming vehicle, flipped over and struck four other cars sitting on the opposite side of the street, according to investigators.
Tim Wise told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh he thinks the woman’s truck may have flipped over his car.
"I just put my head down, said a quick prayer and was OK when I came back up," Wise said.
George Bedi told Kavanaugh he reached over to change radio stations and suddenly saw the truck come at him.
"The next minute I saw this black truck flying. (It) landed on top of that gray Toyota," Bedi said. "If I would have been a little up, this big truck would have landed on the roof of my truck. I could have been somewhere dead or whatever."
In addition to the driver who was killed, police said two other people were treated for minor injuries.
Police told Kavanaugh they are working to find out why the woman ran through the red light. Officers said this type of accident is often caused by some type of driver distraction.
Police had not released the name of the woman killed in the crash.
