Woman killed after tractor trailer overturns on family’s car, driver Ivan Delgado arrested
A runaway tractor trailer is being blamed for a wreck that killed a mother and injured her husband as well as two children in Bartow County.
The semi, loaded with cleaning solvents and other toxic materials, slammed into a pickup truck carrying a family of four on Highway 41 in Emerson.
Police said there was no one driving the big rig at the time of the wreck Thursday night.
According to police, the driver, identified as 52-year-old Ivan Delgado, was apparently performing a safety check in the parking lot and forgot to set the brakes. The truck rolled about 50 yards into the highway.
A woman in the pickup was killed instantly. Her husband was taken to a hospital in Marietta and their two children are at Scottish Rite hospital in stable but serious condition.
Delgado was arrested on a DUI (alcohol) charge, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office. Investigators said the suspect also has a hold for pending charges.
Delgado will not have a first appearance hearing until charges are complete.
