Vigil Held for Cobb Lightning Strike Victims
The teenage girl who was killed after being struck by lightning was remembered Wednesday night, while her cousin fights for her life. Shequille Hunter died during Tuesday's storms that swept through Cobb County.
The 16-year-old Hunter and her 15-year old cousin were struck at their apartment complex while seeking shelter under a tree.
Residents say the storm was violent -- shaking buildings and knocking out power.
Police say the lightning bolt split the 60 foot tree sending the electricity outwards though the ground where the cousins were standing.
Hunter was killed and the 15-year-old was rushed to Grady hospital in critical condition.
According to police the girls left their apartment when the power went out.
Family members say they were heading to a friends house when the teens got caught in the storm.
This is the second deadly lightning strike in metro Atlanta in just over two weeks. A couple of teenagers in Henry County were struck by lightning on June 29. One of them died.
