Video shows deadly encounter between suspect Brent Brannon and Officer

A dash-cam video released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation shows the deadly encounter between an Emerson police officer and a driver who pulled a gun during a traffic stop.

Emerson Police Officer Robert K. Smith pulled over an SUV on I-75 northbound near Exit 288 to check on an expired tag on Oct. 14.

The GBI says Officer Smith got the man's drivers license to do a routine check for outstanding warrants and discovered the driver is a man named Brent Andrew Brannon, 27, wanted for trafficking heroin and was considered armed and dangerous.

The video shows Smith asking for back-up and then using his Taser on Brannon when he is not complying with orders but it doesn't work right.

Smith then yells "drop the gun" and fires his weapon at least 13 times at Brannon.

He calls for EMS but Brannon died shortly after the shooting.

Investigators say Brannon had two weapons in his SUV.

Smith remains on leave pending the results of the investigation.
