Union City Man Killed in House Fire

A Union City man was killed when fire swept through his home Saturday morning. Flames shot through the roof of his home as fire crews arrived.
The fire broke out just before 6:00 a.m. at the home on Church Street, near Flat Shoals Road. Flames were shooting through the roof when fire crews arrived on the scene.
State insurance commissioner John Oxendine said there was no sign of smoke detectors in the home.
Fire investigators said it appeared the blaze was accidental and started in the kitchen.
