Athens police say a homeless man is under arrest and charged with kidnapping a female student and forcing her to drive to an ATM to withdraw money.

The attack was reported at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday inside the Tate Student Center Parking lot on campus. Police said the unidentified student was able to get away from the man and call 911.

Police arrested Michael King hours after the attack. According to the police report, King followed the student into the parking deck, then slid into her car through the passenger side.

The report says the man acted in an aggressive manner, grabbed the woman’s thigh and ordered her to drive to an ATM on Alps Road about three miles away. While on Alps, police said, the woman was able to get away.

Athens Clarke County police arrested King a few hours later.

UGA confirmed that King is the same man who pleaded guilty in 2012 to fleecing a retired UGA professor out of nearly $10,000. He served two years in prison.

King is charged with kidnapping, attempted robbery and misdemeanor sexual battery.  He remains in the Clarke County Jail.
