The heartwarming moment that firefighters rescue dogs from burning home

Firefighters were photographed rescuing several dogs from a house fire in New York on Wednesday, carrying their limp bodies out of a buing building and clutching them close until animal control services arrived on scene.

South Blooming Grove Firefighter Erick Vath is seen in one photograph carrying a dog away from the fire at 7 Wildwood Trail in Mountain Lodge Park.

Vath, covered in ash, clutched the dog - who appeared alert - as he walked away from the smoke-engulfed home. He then knelt on the ground and hugged the canine as he waited for animal control to arrive.

At least one other dog - a medium sized canine with long, black hair - was also rescued from the blaze.

In another heroic act Wednesday, emergency workers saved an 80-pound Boxer named Lola from a house fire in Alton, Illinois.

The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and Lola's owner, Jodie Elliott, was hysterical as firefighters went inside to find her dog. A kitchen fire had ignited the blaze.

Firefighters finally found the tan-colored pooch hiding between a bed and a wall in the basement of the home and three men carried her limp body out of the front door as Elliott looked on in horror.

Despite Lola's limp appearance, however, she was still breathing. Firefighters placed her body on the ground and immediately begin feeding her oxygen through a tube specially designed for canines.

Lola had suffered significant smoke inhalation before firefighters found her.

The dog was then transported to a local veterinarian, where she was still recovering late Wednesday
