Legendary rock band The Eagles took to the stage Friday night at Piedmont Park. Crowds of fans gathered in the park Friday night, as tthe band became the latest act to host a benefit for the Piedmont Park Conservancy.

The Hotel Califoia set up shop in Piedmont Park -- at least for one night.

Last minute preparations continued for the show early in the day Friday, as Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, The Eagles hosted a benefit for the Piedmont Park Conservancy.

"We are growing the park as everybody knows, 53 more acres of greenspace, in order to take care of that and to keep Piedmont Park as it exists today, vibrant, available, we have to have the maintenance funds," said Yvette Bowden, CEO of the Piedmont Park Conservancy.

In past years both Paul McCartney and Dave Matthews have brought crowds to the city's largest park -- but this year there were some changes.

The Piedmont Conservancy says they talked to neighbors of the park about how to manage the crowds despite both commuters retuing to the area and schools letting out -- just as concert crowds were set to arrive.

"It's on a Friday instead of a Saturday, so we're extra sensitive to the fact that school has to get out safely, people have to get home safely. It is a car-less event, so we are not encouraging people to bring a car into the neighborhood. We're trying to make it more comfortable for the people who come out, you can bring a sand chair or stadium seat, you couldn't do that in the past," said Bowden.

Officials said they were also trying to make the event more comfortable for the neighborhood surrounding the park, which already has very little parking.

Police asked the thousands of people expected for the concert to leave their cars at home.

"If they are coming to the concert, we'd prefer they'd take mass transit, we've got all the MARTA routes covered coming to the park. There's limited parking in the neighborhood, just residential parking in the neighborhood, so we'd prefer they'd take MARTA. We'll have a heavy presence in the neighborhood enforcing parking regulations," said Capt. Joe Spillane of the Atlanta Police Department.
