Teen listening to music hit, killed by train, police say

A 17-year-old boy walking along the train tracks was struck and killed by a freight train Thursday moing.      

The was listening to music on his cellphone while walking along the tracks near the intersection of U.S. 11 and Cobb Street in Jefferson, 20 miles northwest of Athens.

Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman said the train engineer blew the CSX train's whistle, but the teenager never made a move to get out of the way.   

Wirthman says the boy's phone was still playing music when it was found in the wreckage.       

Police have not yet released the teenager's name.
