Stray Bullet Kills DeKalb Mother Of 3 Quishana Loynes While Brushing Daughter's Hair
A mother of three was killed when a stray bullet broke through her apartment window, DeKalb County police said. Police announced they have a suspect in custody.
The victim's grandmother told Georgia Newsday the woman was brushing her daughter's hair when she was shot.
The woman's three children -- ages 11, 9 and 8 -- were in the home at the time but were not hurt.
The children are now with extended family.
DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the woman, identified as Quishana Loynes, 29, was struck in the back around 9 p.m. Monday. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
"This is a very active investigation," Parish said. "Naturally, our detectives are talking with residents in the complex and potential witnesses."
Parish said they have one suspect in custody, who is believed to have fired the shot that killed Loynes. The suspect's name is not yet being released.
Parish said the suspect was involved in an argument with another person in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The argument turned into a shoot-out, police said.
Police are still looking for the other person involved in the shoot-out.
The family's church is taking up a collection to help with funeral costs. Donations can be made at The Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ on Ashwood Avenue in Southwest Atlanta.
