Standoff Ends in Midtown Atlanta

Atlanta police were on the scene of a standoff in midtown Atlanta Tuesday. Investigators said the situation started at an apartment building at 1384 West Peachtree Street, near 16th Street.

Officers were called to the Belvedere House apartments to perform a welfare check at the request of the mother of one of the residents.

When an officer arrived at the apartment, they were denied access by the woman's husband.

Police said the officer called for back-up. Investigators said that the husband exited the apartment before the back-up arrived.

When police gained entry, they said they found 17 marijuana plants, marijuana in two jars and growing equipment.

The wife, whose name is on the apartment lease, retued to the apartment later in the afteoon, was taken into custody and charged with trafficking marijuana. The husband had not been located as of Tuesday evening.

The investigation continues. Police have not released the names of the suspects.
